Like many of you, I have been frustrated by the mainstream media's lack of coverage of the United Health Care lawsuit. Many of us see this as an opening to expose once and for all the endemic fraud and abuse of the health insurance racket, which has exploited and ripped off millions of Americans for decades with impunity. In the wake of the corrupt corporatism of the Bush Administration, the time is now ripe for this issue to come to the forefront of the political dialogue.
As I have stated before, I am a committed Clarkie, although I am chafing for Wes to make the campaign plunge. I admire Edwards though, even more so now that he has made health care a central issue in his campaign. My fantasy role for him has always been to be a crusading, kickass Attorney General, rooting out evil wherever it lurks. But if he can win the nomination of my party, I would be more than enthusiastic about supporting Edwards for POTUS.
Anyway, it seems to me that the UHC lawsuit gives him a unique opportunity to publicize his core issue, by dragging the lawsuit into the spotlight and educating the public as to just how typical these abuses are. It would also be interesting to see how far out on the limb others (particularly Hillary) would go in criticizing the health insurance industry. As I see it, Edwards has been handed a hot button, and I would love to see him push it.
